Juliet Hulme: Only the best people fight against all obstacles in pursuit of happiness.
While of course Peter Jackson is well-known for the Lord of The Ring trilogy, and now The Hobbit films, one movie that is left forgotten is that of Heavenly Creatures. The film depicts events based on the true events of a tragedy, provided with details from a diary.
While the movie not only explores different views of mental disorders, sexual orientation, and fantasies, it realistically shows what society can produce, and how easy it is for tragedies to happen, even when everything is done to control them. I don’t want to go into much detail on the film, yet when watching, as a viewer i’m sure you will feel the same heavy foreboding weight that I did when I first watched.
The film is beautifully driven by Melanie Lynksy and Kate Winslet (in her acting debut), with such raw and deep emotional talent, there isn’t a moment in the film where you doubt their feelings or actions. From the screenwriting, acting, cinematography, and artistic choices in the film, this movie is really just a brilliant descent into madness.
Not all angels are innocent.
